The Castaway of Butter Bay

A poem I wrote and illustrated in 2017

The Castaway of Butter Bay has always been adrift...
Some days she nibbles on her boat....
Her seat's a little kernel
The bottom's getting soggy
No longer drifting shiftless...
An island! She can see it...
The butter rushes in around her...
She kicks and paddles...
Bobbing up and lurching down....
Then in a great wave's trough...
She spends her strength....
When she wakes...
There's nothing there but...
Someday she'll sail away again....
